Be It Resolved…

Time for a little introspection, here, friends.

201501_Resolutions We’re just shy of the halfway mark of the first month of the New Year. Whatever New Year’s resolutions we’ve made have either gone the way of the buffalo, or they’re hanging on with dogged determination while we resist one temptation after another.

But is that all there is? Resolutions that, by their very nature, set us up for failure? Why not try a new approach to resolutions, resolve to make an investment in this year’s success?

Even if money’s tight (isn’t it always?!), we have something we can invest that will pay incredible dividends.

How about volunteering for a charity we admire?

Or just being  nicer  to our friends and family?

Extend our reach, and be nicer, friendlier, more compassionate, more understanding to the people who normally try our patience.

If we remember that we’re  all  doing the best we can with what we’ve got to work with, we might see behind others’ defenses and realize that we’re all dealing with disappointments, loss, fear, and uncertainty. We all need someone to be a little more understanding, a little more compassionate, a little more forgiving.

If it starts with us, we’ll get to see surprise and gratitude on the faces of those on the receiving end of our resolutions.

Best of all, it’s something we can do every single day without giving up anything we love … because we’ll get all our investment back, and more.

This is my resolution for 2015.

I’d love to hear about yours!

By now, everyone knows that COVID-19 has sent shock waves through our society. Its effects are felt daily in our health care system, where shortages of simple things like facemasks and protective gloves put caregivers as well as patients at increased risk of infection. Its effects are felt in our everyday activities, as state after […]

I’ve been involved in martial arts, on and off, for the past 20 years. In the last few years, though, I’ve really doubled down on my training. In the process, I’ve seen important parallels between my journey in martial arts and my journey as a businessman in telecommunictions. The martial arts are all about discipline, […]
