Symmetrical Speeds: Are They Important?
Verizon FiOS has made a change to its business bundle that has me really excited: SpeedMatchis an idea whose time has come!
In the early days of the Internet, most business users were more concerned with how fast they could download information. It was more important to be able to receive files than to send them, and Internet Service Providers touted fast download speeds, with upload speeds that were only about half as fast.
Today, business uploads are increasing not only because of technological advances like teleconferencing that require lightning-fast speeds in both directions, but also because businesses are making more use of cloud computing, and uploading files to remote servers.
The increased use of mobile devices like laptops, tablets, smartphones, and even wearable devices means more people are accessing the Internet simultaneously. The more traffic our bandwidth has to carry, the slower our data transfers become.
Upload speeds are now just as important to business customers as download speeds, and Internet Service Providers are responding with plans that even the playing field.
Almost. Different services have different optimal speeds, and the fastest speeds are on fiber optic systems.
Verizon FiOS has the only nationwide fiber optic system available, offering SpeedMatch, with matched upload/download speeds up to 500Mbps, depending on your service agreement. And you don’t have to do anything to take advantage of it. The upgrade to symmetrical speeds with SpeedMatch
is free!
Current customers will notice the difference over the next few months.
